Client Challenge

PURE Insurance relied on Excel-based rating algorithms to drive underwriting decisions within their policy administration system, OneShield. But updating these algorithms was a slow, IT-dependent process.

Business users had to submit tickets and wait for manual updates to be coded into the system—creating delays, increasing operational burden, and tying up IT resources that could be better spent on strategic initiatives.

Solution

A Smarter, Faster Path to Rating Updates

To reduce friction in the underwriting process, PURE Insurance partnered with Coherent for a three-month proof of concept (POC). The goal: test whether Coherent Spark could automate the transformation of Excel-based rating logic into APIs that seamlessly integrated with OneShield.

The Spark platform delivered. Business users could continue building and updating rating logic in Excel—while Spark automatically converted those workbooks into fully functional APIs. These APIs plugged directly into PURE’s existing systems, eliminating the need for manual coding or translation by IT.

The result was a simplified, scalable process that gave business teams direct control over updates and freed IT to focus on innovation rather than maintenance.
